I was on a mission to find the best fish tacos on the island, but I wasn’t expecting to make the discovery at a Food Truck/Patio on a random corner of San Juan.

Let me introduce you to El Vagón. You can’t leave San Juan without stopping here for the best Fish Tacos!

This is the mural that greets you at the entrance, you can’t miss it! It is also an accurate disruption of what your face will look like once you’ve tasted their amazing food.

The Atmosphere

This Food Truck / Patio combo was the right pick. It’s a super chill place with patio seating and a very friendly staff that is also bilingual! The first few seconds after entering a new place really sets the vibe for how the rest of the dining experience is going to be like.

This is a commonplace among both locals and tourists. While we do now live in PR, we definitely loved like tourists wandering in and looking around having no idea what we should do next.

As soon as we entered we were greeted by a waiter that was thrilled it was the first time we were going to experience the food and service!

I strongly believe that if you love to travel with a sense of adventure, a unique place like this will leave better memory than a “fancy” restaurant with overpriced food. The wait staff was genuinely happy to be here and they were having a blast!

This place was fairly busy (half full) and we were there on a Monday, early afternoon. I heard that this place becomes placed, especially in the evening and weekends.

For those of you who are interested in the beverage options department, from what I could tell they had a well-supplied bar and a great selection of local beers.

The Food

Prices: $ (You will easily get a delicious meal and drink for under $10)

The menu is in Spanish but it’s very simple and I could easily decide on what I wanted right off the bat. Even so, the staff is bilingual and will be happy to explain the menu. These menu pics where taken on June 4th,2017. Prices may change over time and be different when you visit.

I got the Baja Fish Tacos (surprise!)

It was more like a mountain of fresh taco goodness topped with freshly fried fish on top of a soft tortilla. The portions are huge and it takes a second to strategize the optimal plan of attack.

It was a mind-blowingly delicious mountain of fish taco goodness. And if the tacos weren’t enough, chips and dipping sauce came as a side dish and you could tell they where fresh ad homemade.

Tyler ordered the Salmon tacos and it was so good that he ordered another taco dish to try!

I love when something as simple as getting lunch turns into an unexpected adventure and memorable experience!

Do you have any food favorites on the Island? I’d love recommendations on where to go next for a food adventure! Let us know in the comments!!
